Letters/Sounds: B (boil), F (flour), G (glue), R (rice), S (stirring), W (whisk)
¼ cup rice flour (or use white rice—not instant rice—that has been ground into powder in a blender)
¼ cup cold water
1 ¾ cup boiling water (heat in a glass measuring pitcher or bowl in the microwave for about 2 minutes)
Directions for the children:
Use a spoon (or another small measuring cup) to scoop up and then pour the rice flour into a ¼ cup measuring cup. Level the top off with the back of a knife. This will give you exactly 1/4 cup of rice flour. Pour the flour into the bottom of a small saucepan or bowl. Fill the ¼ cup measuring cup all the way to the top with cold water and then carefully pour it into the pan or bowl with the rice flour. Now use the small whisk to stir everything around and around and back and forth until all the rice flour and the water are mixed together and there are no lumps.
Directions for the adults:
Put the rice flour and water mixture into a small saucepan. Add in the boiling water a bit at a time stirring constantly with a whisk until the flour and water are thoroughly blended. Put the saucepan on a burner and bring it to a boil over medium heat, again stirring constantly with the whisk. Boil for one minute or until the mixture thickens and becomes slightly translucent.
Let cool before using. Can be applied with fingers or a small brush. Cleans easily with soap and water. Store in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 6 days.
