Homeschool Group
Who Are We?
We are a local group of parents and kids who regularly meet for activities that enrich our children's educational experience. We are based out of Issaquah, WA, but have members coming from a wide geographical area. We help organize groups of homeschooling families into groups based on shared schedules at the beginning of the year.
Do we teach academic subjects?
Our homeschool group does not teach core academic subjects. Our families use a range of non-traditional education including homeschool curriculums, online learning systems, private distance learning programs, unschooling, private tutoring, and more. However, many of our activities are STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) or STEM projects.
What kind of activities do we organize?
We host a diverse set of experiences that give kids the opportunity to try new things. We encourage student-led activities & projects supported by encouraging adults. We also have other opportunities for kids/teens to interact including through special interest clubs.
What are the responsibilities of the co-op members?
As a co-op, we ask each of our members ages 8 through adult to plan one activity (or more) each year. The activity can be in a home or somewhere in the community like a museum, art studio, park or field trip location. You can "teach" about something you are passionate about, or just plan a trip for the group. Check this site for resources - you can find step-by-step activities on the blog, or local resources under our IDEA page.
When do group activities happen?
At the beginning of the year, we meet and discuss what times will work for our homeschool families. Groups form based on shared similar schedules and kid's ages. We try to keep each group size to around 15-20 kids, so that hosting activities is manageable.
